Strange times: The Great Recession and Great Inflection are making our companies ultralean, innovative and productive. But with credit still constricted, we’re like a superfit track star with a weak heart. We’ve got to get credit pumping to our industrial muscles again.

John Lennon - Well Well Well

One of my most vivid childhood memories was the day John Lennon was murdered. I remember walking into my parents room and seeing my mother crying. I got very confused when she explained that she didn’t know him personally, but felt like she grew up with him. She went on to explain what a loss it was for our society. Of course, as a young boy that had an impact on me, which naturally led to a curiosity about his music. Here’s one of my favorites from his catalog.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Oh Well (Fleetwood Mac cover)

Tom Petty’s “Live Anthology” won’t be released for a few days, but anyone who bought a “ticket” to his Superhighway Tour now has access to half of the 48 tracks that are on the multi-disc album — Petty’s been releasing them one at a time over the past 8 weeks and the rest will be available on the 23rd. It’s an amazing mix of covers and originals recorded between 1978-2007. Everything I’ve heard so far is incredible, including this version of Oh Well, recorded at Bonnaroo in ‘06. Can’t wait to hear the rest.

Man, I miss The Wire.
